Anne Marie Hauben
Anne Marie Hauben is a Co-Founder of the Survivors’ Solidarity March (SSM) and is the creator of Amplified Voice Healing. A survivor of sexual violence, Anne Marie was mostly silent for 33 years until the perpetrator of her assault decided to run for city council in the small suburb of Boston where she and he both grew up and he still lives. After much thought, consideration, and retaining an attorney for advice, Anne Marie made the brave decision to speak out as he had made this a matter of public concern and this was important information for the voters in her hometown.Because of the secondary trauma she was subjected to by certain community members in her hometown after she spoke out, along with consent education, her advocacy and activism focuses heavily on challenging victim-blaming, victim-shaming, silencing tactics, dismantling rape myths, exposing performative allyship, and advocating for legislative change that will protect survivor voices. After finally finding her own voice and becoming more comfortable talking about what happened to her, using her experience as a tool for education and prevention became her new mission in life. She wants good to come from this horrible thing that happened to her as a teenager. She is determined to help ensure that others are spared both the trauma of sexual violence and the secondary trauma of attacks, defamation threats, and smear campaigns that too often follow when survivors speak out or report their assault, abuse, or harassment.
In the spring of 2025 Anne Marie became an advocate for the Speak Your Truth Act. This is a bill that aims to protect survivors of sexual assault, abuse, harassment, and discrimination from frivolous and retaliatory defamation lawsuits brought in bad faith. This weaponization of defamation law is aimed at intimidating, silencing, and punishing survivors who report and/or speak out truthfully and without malice. This silencing tactic is very effective and has become exponentially more common in the last 8-10 years. Anne Marie submitted written testimony in support in Connecticut where this was signed into law in June of 2025. She has testified twice in person at the Massachusetts State House, in support of this bill, where it is still making its way through the legislative process.
After facing the threat of legal retaliation herself after she spoke out, Anne Marie brings informed and personal perspectives to the urgency for these protections. She engages directly with lawmakers, legislative staff, survivor-focused organizations, lawyers, and most importantly, other survivors to garner support and sponsorship. She’s committed to creating this change so that survivors are believed, supported, and their voices are legally protected. Having the safeguard of existing anti-retaliatory laws for herself as she was speaking out about a public elected official, she is fighting to ensure that all survivors are afforded the same rights and safeguards when reporting and/or speaking out about their experiences.
In addition to being a Co-Founder of SSM and advocating for The Speak Your Truth Act, Anne Marie is an ardent supporter of the national nonprofit organization Callisto, a confidential, encrypted, free online matching system connecting victims/survivors of serial perpetrators (www.projectcallisto.org) and is currently available to anyone 18+ in the United States with a .edu email address (students & staff).
Anne Marie is also the mom of two amazing and thriving teenagers. She and her husband have been married for 21 years. She is so grateful for the love and support of her husband and kids during the extremely difficult time of 2023 and as she has continued to transform one of the most painful experiences of her life into meaningful advocacy and action.
